Kagoro Cultural Festival Holds for the First Time in Four Years** January 1, 2024
| Kaduna, Nigeria After four years of suspension due to insecurity, the Afan Festival, an annual cultural celebration in Kagoro, Kaduna State, has been held. The event was attended by thousands of people, including visitors from neighboring states and friends of the Kagoro Chiefdom. The festival, which took place on January 1, featured traditional attire, dancing, and music. Elders led ceremonies and passed down sacred knowledge to the younger generation, fostering a sense of continuity and identity. Speaking at the festival, Chief Ufuwai Bonet, the paramount ruler of Kagoro, said the event served as a platform for promoting unity and preserving culture. He also called on the government to continue its efforts to restore peace in the area. Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Prof. Ben Gugong, lauded the exhibition and display of the rich cultural heritage of the Kagoro people. He called on the people to continue living in peace with one another. The National President of the Gworok Development Association, Prof. Duniya Gambo, thanked God for a successful farming season and called on the government to compensate victims of attacks in the area. He also called for a partnership between the government and the private sector to reorganize the festival and unlock its socio-cultural and economic potential. The festival was a success and was seen as a sign of the return of peace and security to the area.
